As dawn breaks, my day begins in the tranquillity of the early morning hours. I kickstart my morning with a refreshing session of meditation to centre my mind and set a positive tone for the day. Afterward, I make it a point to step outdoors and embrace the gentle warmth of the sun. Practicing sun-gazing within the first 15 minutes of sunrise, I bask in the natural sunlight, a routine that not only energizes me but also resets my circadian rhythms through a natural dose of cortisol spike.
My morning routine also places emphasis on oral health. I believe in taking care of my oral microbiome by rinsing my mouth with coconut oil, an ancient practice known as oil pulling. After this, I brush with a non-toxic toothpaste, ensuring I maintain a healthy, chemical-free oral environment.
Before reaching out for my breakfast, hydration is key. I start my day by sipping on warm water infused with freshly squeezed lemon and a teaspoon of honey. This not only refreshes and hydrates my body but also helps in kick-starting my digestion, further enhancing my overall well-being.
The benefits of a plant-based diet for longevity cannot be overstated. After the refreshing lemon water I wait several hours until I get hungry. My breakfast choices are simple yet nutritious, encompassing a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. From a smoothie packed with leafy greens to avocado toast on whole grain bread, plant-based foods kick-start my metabolism without any dairy products.
Polyphenol-Rich Start: Yogurt and Green Matcha Tea
Myy first food of the day is often a bowl of plant-based yogurt laden with a variety of berries. These fruits are rich in polyphenols, a class of compounds with notable health benefits including anti-inflammatory, heart, and brain health promotion. Alongside, a warm cup of green matcha tea further adds to my intake of polyphenols, starting the day on a healthy note.
One of the most well-known polyphenols is resveratrol, famously found in red wine. This compound is believed to have a range of benefits, including promoting heart health, supporting brain health, and offering potent anti-inflammatory effects.
